Steelers Aim to Create One of the Most Dangerous Offensive Duos in the AFC After Expressing Strong Interest in Pro Bowl Superstar Stefon Diggs

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania — The Pittsburgh Steelers may be preparing one of the most intriguing offensive upgrades of the upcoming offseason. As the NFL approaches the start of free agency, the organization has been strongly linked to veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs, a move that could reshape the Steelers’ passing attack heading into the 2026 season.

Diggs is expected to be released by the New England Patriots when the free agency window officially opens on March 11. The veteran wideout remains one of the most accomplished receivers available on the market, and multiple teams are expected to explore the possibility of adding the former Pro Bowl playmaker.

For Pittsburgh, the interest makes strategic sense. The Steelers have been searching for a reliable second receiving option to complement DK Metcalf, who carried much of the passing offense during the 2025 campaign. While Metcalf delivered several standout performances, the lack of consistent production from the rest of the receiver room limited the overall explosiveness of the offense.

Adding Diggs would immediately change that dynamic. Even at 32 years old and coming off an ACL injury suffered in 2024, the veteran wideout proved in 2025 that he still has plenty left in the tank. Diggs recorded 85 receptions for 1,103 yards and four touchdowns last season while continuing to show the route-running precision that made him one of the league’s most reliable targets.

His resume also speaks for itself. From 2020 through 2023, Diggs recorded four consecutive seasons with more than 100 receptions, establishing himself as one of the NFL’s most consistent pass catchers. That level of reliability is exactly what Pittsburgh lacked last season when opposing defenses frequently focused their coverage on Metcalf.

If Diggs ultimately lands in Pittsburgh, the Steelers could suddenly feature one of the most dangerous wide receiver duos in the AFC. Metcalf’s size and deep-threat ability paired with Diggs’ elite route running and separation skills would force opposing defenses into difficult coverage decisions on nearly every passing play.
