Packers Reworking Deal with Former Seahawks Safety After Medical Concerns
Green Bay, WI — March 11, 2026
The Green Bay Packers are reportedly reassessing the contract they recently agreed to with former Seattle Seahawks safety Coby Bryant after concerns emerged during his physical examination.
Initially, the Packers had agreed to terms with Bryant on a three-year deal worth approximately $40 million, a move aimed at bolstering a secondary that struggled with consistency last season. The 26-year-old safety was expected to take on a significant role as the Packers continue to reshape their defense.
However, during the routine medical evaluation following free-agent agreements, team doctors reportedly flagged concerns related to Bryant’s injury history. While the issues are not believed to be career-threatening, they have prompted the Packers’ front office to reconsider the financial terms of the deal.
Rather than backing out of the signing entirely, league sources indicate that Green Bay and Bryant’s representatives are working toward restructuring the agreement to reflect the medical risk involved.
The concerns stem primarily from Bryant’s time in Seattle. During the 2023 season, he battled toe injuries in both feet, forcing him to miss roughly two months and temporarily lose his starting role. More recently, Bryant dealt with a minor knee injury late in the 2025 season, though he returned sooner than expected thanks to a strong recovery process.
Despite these setbacks, Bryant remained a productive defensive player and showed significant development after fully transitioning to safety. His versatility, including the ability to cover deep and support the run, were key reasons why the Packers moved swiftly to secure his services when free agency opened.
Since the original agreement had not yet been finalized, the Packers have the flexibility to renegotiate the contract. The revised deal may include reduced guarantees, performance-based incentives, or a lower overall value compared to the initial $40 million framework.
From the team’s perspective, the aim is not to cancel the signing but to ensure that the contract accounts for the long-term durability concerns raised during the evaluation process.
For Bryant, the negotiations represent an adjustment rather than a setback. Sources around the league still expect both parties to reach a modified agreement that will keep the veteran safety in Green Bay.
If finalized, Bryant would still join the Packers as an integral part of their evolving defensive backfield, albeit under a contract that is better aligned with the team’s medical evaluations.
