Packers Lead Race for $60 Million Pro Bowl DT to Fix Defensive Line
Green Bay, Wisconsin
The Green Bay Packers are emerging as the leading contender to land a $60 million Pro Bowl defensive tackle as the team aggressively looks to upgrade its interior defensive line heading into the 2026 season.
After finishing the 2025 season with an impressive 11–6 record, winning the NFC North and securing the franchise’s first playoff victory in 15 years, Green Bay enters the offseason determined to address the few remaining weaknesses on its roster.
One of the most obvious concerns is the interior defensive front. Despite the team’s overall defensive progress, the Packers finished tied for 22nd in total sacks and ranked 27th in rushing yards allowed per game, highlighting the need for a stronger presence inside the defensive line.
League sources now believe Green Bay is leading the race to sign Jonathan Allen, a veteran defensive tackle widely respected for his physicality, leadership, and experience anchoring NFL defensive fronts.
Allen played the 2025 season with the Minnesota Vikings, appearing in all 17 games and finishing with 68 tackles and 3.5 sacks while continuing to serve as a disruptive force against both the run and the pass.

A potential signing would also reunite Allen with Packers star pass rusher Montez Sweat, his former teammate from their days with the Washington Commanders.
Sweat has become the centerpiece of Green Bay’s pass rush since arriving in 2023, recording 10 sacks, 18 quarterback hits, 13 tackles for loss, and three forced fumbles during the 2025 season.
Pairing Allen with Sweat could recreate the kind of inside–outside pressure combination that once made Washington’s defensive front one of the most disruptive units in the league.
Green Bay’s defensive tackle group still shows promise, particularly after Gervon Dexter Sr. posted a breakout campaign with seven sacks last season. However, the team is still seeking more consistency and veteran stability along the interior.
Signing a proven Pro Bowl defender like Allen would not only strengthen the Packers’ defensive front but also add experience and leadership to a defense aiming to build on its breakout season.
If the move materializes, Green Bay could take a major step toward transforming its defensive line into one of the most formidable units in the NFC.
