Packers Anticipated to Make ‘Big Move’ After All-Pro’s Release

he Green Bay Packers moved off of two former centerpieces of the roster on Monday; edge rusher Rashan Gary was traded to the Dallas Cowboys for a fourth round pick whilst interior offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins was released.

The team saved around $11 million in cap space from the initial trading of Gary, before making the move to release Jenkins later on in the day after being unable to find a trade partner for the former versatile All-Pro guard/center.

However, the second move – which saved the Packers almost $20 million in 2026 – was not actually needed given the current state of the cap: Green Bay did not make any moves on the first day of the legal tampering period that required more cap room to be cleared, nor were they in such dire financial straights that they needed to move off the former Mississippi State man.

So it figures that perhaps another motive is at play. Justis Mosqueda of the Acme Packing Company publication suggests that the move to release Jenkins suggests that the Packers may be planning a big move over the next few days.

“We don’t need cap space and he had no triggers so a big move might be coming”, Mosqueda pointed out on X.

The Packers currently have around $31.5 million in cap space to work with after the releases of Jenkins and Gary.

What ‘Big Move’ Could the Packers Target?

There are a number of players Green Bay may be looking at if they are in fact planning a statement move. Trade-wise, Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter has been reportedly looked at as an option.

And on the free agent market, a cornerback like Riq Woolen or Nahshon Wright would fill a huge needed, whilst a an edge rusher such as K’Lavon Chaisson or Bradley Chubb would bring starting-level quality to a unit that just lost Gary and fellow defensive end Kingsley Enagbare, who agreed to a one-year $10 million deal with the New York Jets on Monday.

Beyond that, there are no clear big-time moves Green Bay would be able to realistically pull, especially given that they are currently sans their first round picks until 2028. But the potential for the franchise to make one or two splash moves this week is very much on the cards.

After Joining the Cowboys, Former Packers Star Rashan Gary Surprises Fans with a Message: "I Can’t Be Micah Parsons" – Revealing New Team Story That Resonates with Packers Fans.
Dallas, Texas – Dallas Cowboys made a trade with Green Bay Packers to acquire Rashan Gary, an edge rusher selected 12th overall in the 2019 NFL Draft, in exchange for a 2027 fourth-round pick. Gary has recorded 46.5 sacks over the past 7 seasons, though he didn’t fully meet the expectations when drafted by Packers. After joining the Cowboys, Gary faced high expectations from fans, especially being compared to the defensive star Micah Parsons. Fans flooded his social media with hopes that Gary would become Parsons in the role of the team's centerpiece. Under the weight of this invisible pressure, Rashan Gary broke his silence and spoke up: “I can’t be Micah Parsons. I’m here to be myself and make the impact the Cowboys need. I’m not a replacement; I’m an individual with my own style of play and different goals.” Gary further shared that he wasn’t comfortable being constantly compared to Parsons, who has become a symbol for the Cowboys. “When people always compare me to Micah, I feel like I’m not being truly recognized. I just want to be judged for what I do, not because of comparisons to someone else.” Gary will play alongside Kenny Clark in Dallas and has a connection with new defensive coordinator Christian Parker, who coached him during his first two seasons with Packers. This gives him confidence as he enters a familiar environment. Last season, Gary started strong with 7.5 sacks and 13 quarterback hits, but he failed to record another sack over the final 10 games. Still, he believes his performance will bounce back this season. “I know I can do better. Sometimes, football isn’t just about stats, it’s about how you impact the offense.” Though Gary can’t become Micah Parsons, he believes that continuing to stay focused and playing his style will help him find success. Cowboys are looking ahead with hope that Gary will shine with the new opportunities ahead. Gary's return to Cowboys brings a new wave of expectations, not because he’s replacing Parsons, but because he’s a player who can bring key contributions to the team.
