Detroit Lions Successfully Sign Promising Young CB – Formerly Compared to Darius Slay Due to His Ability to Read Passes, Quick Movement in Matchups Against Strong Wide Receivers
Detroit, Michigan – Detroit Lions have signed cornerback Roger McCreary, former cornerback of the Los Angeles Rams, after he was traded from the Tennessee Titans during the 2025 NFL trade deadline. McCreary, 26, was a part-time starter with the Titans last season, but now he will be an important addition to the Lions' defense.
"We are thrilled to have Roger in our lineup. He's a young cornerback with immense potential, and we believe he will help strengthen our defense," a source from Lions shared. McCreary will join the Lions after Amik Robertson left the team in free agency.

McCreary, a second-round pick of the Titans in the 2022 NFL Draft, had an impressive first season. He quickly established himself as one of the league’s promising cornerbacks. With his ability to read passes and quick movements, McCreary showcased his strength in matchups against strong wide receivers.
McCreary has been compared to Darius Slay, one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL. Like Slay, McCreary has the ability to control the game from the cornerback position, helping to limit powerful offensive plays from opponents. He has also built a reputation for his exceptional defense and creating crucial turnovers.
Lions have also added Christian Izien, a player who can play both cornerback and safety, increasing the flexibility of their defensive lineup. With the addition of McCreary and Izien, Lions are strengthening their defense in preparation for the 2026 season.
With McCreary joining, the Lions now have a stronger defensive lineup, and the team hopes that he will use his ability to read passes and defend tightly in upcoming games. McCreary could become a key figure in the defensive strategy of the Lions.
"McCreary is a crucial addition to our defense. We believe in his potential and hope to help him further develop," the Lions head coach shared about McCreary’s signing. The Lions are preparing for a strong 2026 season with talented, young players in their lineup.
